Creativity in Decolonising Language Teaching Dr Marian Arribas-Tome

Teaching Spanish can and should rely far less on textbooks and more on teachers creating their own fit-to-purpose and tailored resources.

This would facilitate a better representation of less-visible communities and issues, and rapid educational responses in the form of content-creation that teaches language at the same time that teaches about issues that matter to students and society.

Anti-racist and diversity-supportive pedagogies require an inclusive, creative and flexible mindset and a wide-ranging collection of regularly updated material. Language teaching should be adaptative in capturing day-to-day social, political, scientific and environmental rapid-changing discussions and events and go beyond conventional boundaries.

This presentation will be addressing the intersection of pedagogy and activism.
